Randtronics Supports Privacy Week
Randtronics Pty Limited, Australia’s leading data security and encryption firm,
would like to announce its support and participation in Privacy Awareness Week 2007.
Privacy Awareness Week (26th – 30th August) is a promotional campaign first initiated
by Privacy Victoria in 2001. The week is an opportunity for organisations and agencies
covered by the Privacy Act 1998 to promote privacy awareness to their staff, customers,
and the wider community.
Privacy Awareness Week features several privacy-based events and promotions, including
staff quizzes, privacy training sessions and a Privacy Awareness Week Function.
‘This is a great opportunity for employees to re-educate their employees about the
all-important issue of customer privacy,’ enthused Randtronics’ President and CEO
Bob Adhar. ‘Also, the week will help to raise awareness of the issue of privacy
within the wider community.’
Indeed, data privacy has recently become a very hot issue in Australia, following
Democrats leader Natasha Stott Despoja’s push for amendments to the Privacy Act.
Under the proposed amendments, which are modelled on successful U.S. data security
laws, Australian companies will be legally required to report all data breaches
publicly. It is hoped that this would prompt companies to establish strong data
security standards, as well as assist consumers in making intelligent decisions
about who to entrust with their sensitive information.
Randtronics Pty Limited is an Asia Pacific leader in providing organisations with
data privacy solutions. Randtronics offers cryptographic and data privacy consulting
services in applications and database hardening, column or file encryption, disk-in-line
encryption, e-mail encryption, identify theft protection and non-intrusive monitoring
of databases.
